Interview in Review

October 8, 2009

I almost forgot to post about my interview for SGU’s Post-bacc and Masters Program last week.

I personally think it went very well. I will admit my preparation for it was a little last minute, but I think I had strong interview skills to start with anyway. Speaking in front of audiences in politics, dating seminars, and running multiple student organizations in the last few years has really paid off .

I am especially proud of how prepared I was to discuss medical ethics issues (another rub off of my career in politics).

I think I only dropped the ball one time when the interviewer changed the topic on me without warning. However I think I recovered well.

I will be notified of the results in 4 to 5 weeks. I’m keeping my fingers cross because I think all my eggs are in this basket at this point.

Royally Rejected

September 26, 2009

Well that didn’t take long huh? Got my first rejection today! At it’s a special one at that.

I got rejected from St. Georges in the Carribean! Wooo hooo. Man what a big let down huh? And it only took them a couple of weeks to figure it out. Wow….. way to set the bar.

BUT….. they did give me a counter offer which I accepted. They still want to interview me for potentially two programs.

#1. A one semester post-bac in the Caribbean that starts in Jan/Feb. If I get a 3.3 and have committee approval then I move into the Med School. If I don’t get in I’m out thousands of dollars and have no extra degree to show for the work.

#2. An MPH that starts in Jan/Feb but I must get a 3.5 and then have committee approval. Great………. A whole extra year on “the rock” as they call it at the admissions seminar.

…and the big catch is that I don’t get to pick which program I want to push for. They get to pick after the interview…

The plot thickens. My interview is in 4 days….yikes!

Current score 0 for 1 with dozens to go!
